quake champions just did the rare live-service transition that gives you more game
quake champions stopped being free-to-play on september 23 and became a paid Steam-only game. if you played it on Steam before the switch, you keep access at no extra cost.
Microsoft Store version is retired, but old Microsoft Store players can link the Bethesda.net account they used to a Steam account through october 7 for a free Steam entitlement. after that Bethesda says support can review requests case by case.
the part i actually like: Platinum and Shards are gone, every Champion is unlocked, and the cosmetics that used those currencies are available from customization. recent Platinum purchases are being refunded.
this doesn't magically solve long-term server preservation, but it is a much better live-service transition than deleting the store page and wishing everyone good luck.
unlocking every champion is good. now give me a server browser so the final boss isn't matchmaking
microsoft store players: october 7 is the account-linking window. future you does not want this becoming a support ticket archaeology project
