gem grab has aged me

I take Gem Grab more seriously than games with hour-long ranked matches. This is embarrassing but true. The countdown starts and every normal thought leaves my brain. Ten gems. Get back. Get back. GET BACK. Our carrier walks toward the enemy spawn because apparently winning without one last kill would be dishonorable. I am spinning behind cover, firing warning shots, using every emote that communicates please stop being a hero. Nothing works. Then he jumps in, gets deleted, and the gems scatter like we broke a pinata at a funeral. The other team grabs them, hides in a bush, and now we have eight seconds to cross the whole map. My hands are sweating onto a phone screen. Yes I could play with a team instead of randoms. Yes I also missed two easy shots earlier. That information is not relevant during the blame phase. Mobile game, serious emotional consequences.

the countdown is a device that removes survival instinct from your teammate
