old console weirdness had no quality control and i loved it
PS2 and Xbox 360 shelves had games that felt like somebody got one strange idea approved and nobody checked on them again. Weird licensed stuff, ugly racers, action games with three mechanics fighting each other.
You rented one because the box looked sick, brought it home, and discovered the camera lived inside a wall. No refund. That was your weekend now.
Sometimes the scratched disc froze on the same cutscene every time, so you cleaned it on your shirt and negotiated with the console.
A lot of those games were bad. Proper bad. But they were bad in different shapes, and modern mid-budget games rarely get to be that specifically broken.
