microsoft says unlimited cloud gaming inside game pass ends in november. ultimate gets 15 hours a month, premium gets 10, essential gets 5. after that you buy more time. xbox says it expects about 4% of subscribers to hit the cap, which is a very funny way to describe the people actually using cloud gaming the most. i keep thinking about xbox one owners using the cloud as the escape hatch for series-only games. now the escape hatch has a meter on it. servers are not free, i get it. but 15 hours is not a gaming month. that is one bad weekend with a new rpg.

The LAN cafe near my school had Counter-Strike 1.6, plastic chairs and keyboards polished smooth by a million sweaty hands. Spacebar worked perfectly. Half the other keys were a negotiation. We bought the cheapest time block and spent the first part yelling across the room because setting up voice chat sounded like work. One computer had a mouse that double-clicked by itself. It became the cursed station. If you arrived last, that was your machine and everyone laughed before the match even loaded. Better hardware now, obviously. But a Discord call will never reproduce hearing your friend rage from three rows away while the owner tells all of you to shut up.
