Maybe nostalgia is lying but old PES matches felt messy in the right way. The ball would bobble, a pass could be slightly behind the runner, and ugly goals counted just as much as clean ones.
I spent more time fixing team names with an option file than some people spend in career mode now. Then my cousin picked Brazil and used Adriano like a cheat code.
Modern football games make me feel like I am triggering approved animations. Old PES felt like twenty two confused men and one ball having an argument.
It looked worse. The menus were a crime. I miss it anyway.
