i keep screenshots of houses nobody uses
I have a folder full of screenshots from dead sandbox worlds. Not the impressive builds. Mostly unfinished houses.
A Minecraft roof with one side missing. A Roblox room my friend decorated before the private server stopped getting used. A mobile survival base where every chest was named badly.
I save them because sandbox games do not give you a proper ending. People just log in less. The world sits there waiting with all the doors open.
Story games tell you which moment is important. Sandbox games cannot know. The important thing might be the ugly bridge your cousin built because neither of you understood supports.
That is also why polished building templates feel empty to me. The crooked stuff records decisions. You can see where somebody ran out of wood, changed their mind or got distracted by a cave.
A perfect castle says castle. A dirt extension attached to a stone house says we needed beds before night and never fixed it.
Sometimes I open an old save and do not build anything. I just walk through it like a tiny abandoned museum made by people who are all still alive and busy elsewhere.
Not sad exactly. Just weird that games can keep a place after the group has moved on.
Then I take one more screenshot and start another world I will definitely finish this time.
