rob nelson says gta 6 was not fully formed when trailer 1 dropped in 2023, and tom petty's love is a long road was a 'mission statement' the team could rally around for what the game needed to feel like. that does not mean every lyric is a spoiler. it does mean the community spent three years doing song-analysis conspiracy boards while rockstar was also using the song as a creative north star. honestly this makes trailer 1 weirder in hindsight. it was not just marketing showing us a finished idea. part of the trailer was the studio telling itself what game it was still trying to make. every betrayal theory remains fan theory until the actual story says otherwise.
