underwater updates are always a warning sign and grounded 2 did it anyway
every game eventually looks at a perfectly good map and says what if movement was slower and the screen was blue.
grounded 2 opening the pond is cool. i am not denying that. the whole tiny-person-in-a-backyard thing was basically asking for an underwater area from day one.
but underwater gameplay has a very specific failure mode where exploring feels amazing for ten minutes and then you realize every trip needs extra gear, oxygen management and a route back to the surface. suddenly the cool new biome is errands with bubbles.
if the new systems keep movement fast and the amphibious buggy is actually useful, great. if i spend half my session checking whether i packed the correct breathing item, the pond can keep its secrets.
water levels are either the coolest area in the game or the place i delay until the quest forces me there. no middle.
co-op underwater sections are also where one friend discovers they have zero sense of direction
counterpoint: giant pond means giant map icon collection. i am thriving.
